Doug and Ten Reasons

Doug might well be able to give Ten Reasons why he picked his next horse out of a field of more than 500! The first reason to visit the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City in November 2011 was to find a young new horse to bring on to eventually replace Doug's star of the last 5 years, Jacs Little Sunrise. The NRHA Futurity predominately showcases the best 3yr old horses in the world with a full set of classes to test the skills of the older horse too. Sitting though dozens of runs in the qualification rounds Doug believed that he had found his horse.  A small sorrel colt by WEG Gold medallist Hang Ten Surprize, Ten had an impressive stop and looked likely to be able to circle and stop well as he matured. So this young horse from Canada made the trip to The UK in January and commenced his partnership in the show ring with Doug at the NRHA European Futurity in Kreuth in March.

Making the finals in Level 2 and 3, (missing level 4 by a couple of overspins!) Ten and Doug drew second for the finals in a very tough group of horses and riders. Posting a very healthy score of 216 Doug then had to wait for a further 30 runs before he know that he was Reserve Champion in Level 2 and Third in Level 3. There are at least nine more reasons with in that result to illustrate why Doug is eagerly looking forward to showing Ten again later this season!
